Column Base Thermal Bridging Solution

Steel columns inside a building often pass through the floor slab and insulation at their base, breaking continuous insulation within the building envelope. In low temperature facilities such as cold storage or freezer rooms, this results in a thermal bridge and point transmittance (heat transfer) at the base of the steel column. The same issue occurs with exterior columns supporting floors or roof overhangs, where the column-to-roof connection disrupts continuous insulation and allows conduction through thermal bridging.
